Cicaplast Baume B5 or Cicalfate+: which pharmacy pick?

After irritation, laser or a damaged barrier, the same question keeps coming back: Cicaplast or Cicalfate? Both are in pharmacy, both repair — but not with the same texture or actives. Here's how to tell them apart before buying.

Updated on 14 June 2026 · Ranking based on 2 products compared

How to choose between the two

  • Comparison of the two most requested French pharmacy references
  • Sensitive and reactive skin tolerance as main criterion
  • Skinvisor scores (efficacy, texture, hydration, tolerance) when reviews exist
  • Direct link to INCI compare + side-by-side reviews

Cicaplast Baume B5 (La Roche-Posay)

Richer balm texture, well known for damaged skin and superficial scarring. Panthenol (vitamin B5) and madecassoside at the core. Works well when you want a slightly more occlusive protective film on localised areas or a very dry face.

Cicalfate+ (Avène)

Repair cream texture, Avène thermal water and soothing actives (copper-zinc, sucralfate depending on version). Often preferred when skin reacts to overly occlusive textures or you want a classic cream over larger areas.

Can you use both?

No need in daily routine — one is enough per phase (acute irritation vs maintenance). In acute phase, patch test 48 h. If both pass, choice is mostly texture and comfort, not the « repair » promise.

Frequently asked questions

Cicaplast or Cicalfate for burning, red skin?

Both are fragrance-free for fragile skin. If you can't tolerate thick balms, try Cicalfate+. If you want a more occlusive localised balm, Cicaplast is often the first try.

Can you put Cicaplast on an open wound?

No — for irritation, dryness and damaged barrier without open lesions. For wounds, burns or infection, see a healthcare professional.
